Moving On!!!!!

WoooooHoooooo! I have been participating in The Last Scrapper Standing contest on www.just4keeps.com and each week a few scrappers get eliminated by the votes of the members of the site. This week all but 8 were eliminated. I made it past this weeks cuts. Thanks to all who voted for my layout! If you are a member of J4K already, please don't forget about the voting. If you aren't a member yet, go register! I need all the help I can get. Voting takes place every week between 9 pm on Friday and 3 pm on Saturday AZ and UT time. Anyway, each of these challenges has been pretty tough. This last week we were challenged to scrapbook a memory that was related to a scent. So the first thing I thought of was the smell of bananas. They always remind me of my Grandpa Franklin's house. So I scrapped a page about my memories of my Grandpa. Thanks to Aunt Melody for the picture of him! The catch on this challenge was that we had to include a poem written ourselves. YIKES! It took me all week to write a poem and then I threw the layout together at the last minute. I think I do my best work under a lot of pressure! Anyway here is the layout and my poem...

The smell of Banana takes me back to a short time in my life.
When my Grandpa Franklin was alive, and Eloise was his wife.

Sometimes on the weekends when I would go to see my dad,
he would take us to see Grandpa and bananas he always had

Sitting in a fruit bowl on the table in the kitchen.
Filling his home with their sweet scent. I could smell it when I walked in.

I have memories of his backyard, the water fountains and porch swing,
the slot machine and old-fashioned phone, the player piano to which we’d sing,

the Tootsie Roll banks and silver dollars he’d give me for my birthday,
the whole room full of beta movies he recorded every day.

At the Mexican restaurant called La Fonda that he and Eloise owned,
he’d give us chips and salsa free and quesadillas and yummy scones.

Grandpa had a deadly habit. He was addicted to his smokes.
Sometimes when around him, I felt like I would choke.

But I loved my Grandpa, and more than that awful smell,
I always will remember the Bananas oh so well.

Lost but not Forgotten...

This is my layout for the January contest on Keepsake Trends. I was supposed to scrap the most memorable moment of 2005. There are many memorable moments but this was a page I just had to scrap. It is a memorial to Buddy, Mason's old best friend!

Journaling on the back reads:

Mason, shortly after we moved into our new house in Utah, we decided to go for a walk. I put you in the stroller and handed you this puppy. Buddy was his name and you loved him so much. Buddy was your favorite thing. He went everywhere with you and helped mommy put you to sleep at night and even at church. While we were on our way to the park, you must have thrown Buddy overboard. (The gravity game was another favorite.) By the time we noticed and went back along our path, Buddy was gone. I was so sad. And Makenna even cried. I even considered putting Lost Dog posters on all the doors in the neighborhood. I think you have already forgotten Buddy and found a replacement for him, but the rest of us will never forget how much you loved him. Buddy, may you rest in peace!
Love, Mom

Besides this page, I finished two other scrapbook pages and about a dozen cards today. The cards were a QVC kit so I did those really fast. It felt good to get so much accomplished.

Been feeling good but tired!

Well, the insomnia is gone. Thank heavens. I am also happy to say that I have been feeling pretty good so far. I am thinking that I am going to be 5 weeks on Monday and that is about how far I was when the vomitting hit me with Mason and Emily. So I am hoping to be blessed this time around. I also have been able to get some scrapbooking done lately. I am already up to 14 layouts for this month. Holy Cow! I haven't ever kept track so this should be interesting to see if I reach my goal at the end of the year. I want to finish 200 scrap related projects. This includes cards, layouts and altered items. Wish me luck!

Here are a few of the layouts I have finished lately...

IT'S POSITIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I wasn't trying to get pregnant but I wasn't preventing it either. So guess what! Yep. Fertile Myrtle does it again! Here is what I did tonight. Went shopping to get a test cause I just had that "FEELING". I was right! Feeling ok so far. I just hope this won't mess up the way I feel for my Disneyland trip next month. That would NOT be good.

I took my own portraits...

Well, I had to take a self portrait today for my Last Scrapper Standing layout. I was rather surprised at how well they turned out. I felt a little weird at first but since Mason was the only one around it wasn't too bad. And of course I belted him into his highchair. That's how I kept the camera safe. Anyway, I started basic photography classes last Saturday at Inkleys. That is a Ritz Camera dealer. And these classes are really great. I am learning photography vocabulary. And what everything means and does. So Hopefully I will get a bunch more photos that turn out well.

Tomorrow, I will post the layout I made with this picture. It is a title page for my All About Me book. I wasn't sure I was ready to do this yet but once I got started and found a touch of inspiration from the web, the layout just came together all on it's own. I wish...Actually, it took me forever but was really fun. And I like it so that is all that matters.

Can't get moving...

It must be because I got a full 8 hours of sleep last night. I feel so groggy and unmotivated today. I have been fighting the urge to take a nap all morning. And now that it is naptime I can't sleep. But I just don't feel like scrapbooking today either. Maybe I will work some more on my page submission docs. That will make me feel better. Better yet I think I am going to go read the Miserable Mill. That is book 4 of the Series of Unfortunate Events. I am also thinking about listing some of my stamp sets on ebay so I can get a little extra money to buy the Quik Kutz Studio font I have been dying to get! YAAAAAWWWWWWNNNN! Better go!

Ramblings about the day...

Well today was a little strange. All my days are strange anymore I guess. I started my day with taking kids to school as usual. Then I came home to play on the computer for a few minutes. I had cinnamon toast for breakfast and was fine but about an hour later and playing at my computer I ate a KitKat. Man did I get queasy. I had to go lay down and sleep it off. I should have gone to bed earlier last night. Anyway, I woke up about an hour later and Mason was ready to get up and Amy ready to get home from morning Kindergarten. I felt better so I went about my day. During lunch I didn't feel so good again so I didn't finish it. I went Visiting Teaching for about an hour and then watched my neighbors girls. She watched my girls while I was VTing. Anyway I came home and started the running. Amy to Swim Lessons and Makenna to Ice Skating then back to get Amy and then back to get Makenna. Whew! All done. I dropped Amy of at home to have a hot shower and get ready for dinner. Makenna and I went to Walmart to get fleece for blankets we are making for activity days on Thursday. We are making them for three new babies in our ward. At Walmart I couldn't tell if I was getting sick or hungry so I got out of there within one hour. Miracle for me! I picked up Panda Express for William, Makenna, and I and came home. Ate it all and went to Kohls to get some snow pants for me and boots for William. Got home and put the kids to bed. Me time finally! I got my journaling done for my Last Scrapper Standing Layout. It is the title page for my All About Me book. It was pretty tough and I am not sure I want to submit it because it is my testimony to my posterity so I will decide and come up with something on a little less serious note if I need to. But I have to remember that this is MY book, I am not making it for the world to see just my children and their children and so on. So I think I may leave it. If it gets me loosing the contest oh well, not meant to be. As long as I am happy. Well, I feel like I at least got a few things done today. Tomorrow I plan to take a picture of myself and put this layout together.

I have friends coming to my house to scrapbook on Friday so I have to get some cleaning and organizing done Thursday. So tomorrow has to be my last day to scrap this page!

Today was my day...

The kids were out of school today and William was off work so I started my day thinking the day was going to be all about the kids. I planned to have William take them to the college to go sledding. They have a huge long steep hill there. Well, William had no desire to go cause our house has such a steep driveway and the disc we have he didn't think would be stable enough on that hill. So I went sledding outside our house with the kids. It was so much fun. For the kids mostly. After that I called Gossners chesses factory to see if they still gave tours. That was the other fun thing I wanted to take the kids and do. Well they didn't so Amy and I went to their store to taste and buy some of their famous cheese curds. I loved them and bought a 5 pound bag of them. Before that I took Amy to the store to buy her a swim suit for lessons. Holy cow is it expensive to buy a suit in January here. Almost $40 later we left. By the way does Speedo brand just run small cause she wears a size 8 now! She is growing extremely tall and lanky. She will always be my string bean.

After the suit and cheese shopping Amy and I went to Old Navy and scored BIG!!! We bought clothes for the whole family. Everything we bought was on clearance and then an extra 50% off after that. So I got a ton of great stuff. So excited about that!

Then I came home and started to work on my file I have been creating to organize my scrapbook pages for submission and that didn't go as well as I was hoping. I got half a page done then was interrupted by kids and my husband and then Shanna needed some help editing pictures for her Hall of Fall layouts. She is entering that contest this year. I hope she wins! Anyway that took a little time but not too much so it was ok.

Hey wasn't this supposed to be my day? Nothing to do but scrapbook. What happened? Hmmmm, this is exactly why I am so far behind in my albums. Oh well, there is always tomorrow.

INSOMNIAC

Well, I think my days of being an insomniac have resurfaced. I am going crazy trying to sleep at night. Now if you know me well you know that I can fall asleep seconds after my head lands on my pillow. But for the last week I have tossed and turned and thought of all the things I want to do. Most of it scrapbook related, but some is related to my house. I think I need to start a huge list of things I am going to accomplish before the snow melts and then maybe I can start getting to sleep at night knowing that I have a list and the thoughts aren't just floating out there. I can also keep a little more focused too, I hope. I will cross the stuff of that I have finished and feel good knowing I am done. I better just take it a little at a time. So let me start with the things I want to finish just this weekend. Here goes...
  • finish my Last Scrapper Standing layout (DONE)
  • scrapbook 3 more pages (ALL 3 DONE)
  • finish altering my cd cases (Decided to leave them black for now)
  • take my first photography class (DONE and loved it bought a new camera backpack too)
  • find and buy Amy a swim suit for her classes (oops I forgot to see what time they closed, too late)
  • Clean my bathroom (DONE)
  • Clean craft room (DONE)
  • submit 10 layouts to magazines (I decided to organize my layouts on the computer first to make it easier to cut and paste when submitting. When I get a minute I will post how I am doing this. I got a bunch done last night)

Ok so I will be back to check of these things one at a time.

My kids are so funny!

We got about 6 inches of snow in about 3 hours yesterday. When it first started snowing I let my kids bundle up and go out to play in it. This was our first wet snow so they had fun making snowballs and building a snowman. Well Makenna built the snowman anyway. I told her how to roll the balls in the snow to make them bigger and she just did it and did it well. I was watching through the back window and couldn't see too well what she was doing because it was quickly getting dark. She used a carrot for the nose, but had to be creative for everything else. I told her to get wood chips for the mouth but she used them for the eyes instead. She was chewing gum at the time so she took that out and shaped it into a smile for lips. It froze instantly.

Then for the buttons she used Ritz-Bitz crackers. Then she added one of Amy's hats and voila.I thought she was done. So I went out to take a picture of it. By this time it was dark and I could barely see the thing until I used the camera flash.

As I looked at my LCD display on my camera I was so surprised to see that Makenna's snowman was not a snowman. She made it a Woman! Here are the pictures for proof!

I entered the Scrapworks DT contest

Well I decided to be really brave and submit some stuff for the Scrapworks Design Team contest. I had to submit a single and a double page layout, a card and a paper project outside the relm of traditional scrapbooking. So here is the card and the nightlight I made.

I found some scrap friends!

I went last night to scrapbook in Brigham City with a gal who I located from the CK website. I know that was pretty brave but I was desperate for friends to get together and scrap with. Biy am I glad I did. I had a great time. There was me and Karen who invited me to her house and a gal named Amy. We got along great and I thought they were awesome. We are going to make it a regular thing. And of course I did get a great page done of Amy. Here she is on her first day of school here in Utah. CLick on the picture to enlarge it and see the detail.

I can't get rid of this sickness!

Well, I stayed up late last night finishing my projects for the Scrapworks DT contest. I am so happy with how they turned out. Then I went to bed and could not get to sleep. Yeah I know, me not fall right to sleep? When I finally fell asleep I think it must have been after 3 am and I tossed and turned all night. Then I got up this morning and had the sickness back. You know the yucky stuff from both ends. Well, I am not sure if it is because of lack of sleep or because I have the flu but I sure can't wait to get rid of this stuff once and for all.

Anyway, here are two layouts that I made for this DT contest. They have been posted on the gallery at
www.just4keeps.com so I think it is ok to post them here too. After the contest deadline I will post my card and my project too!

Wow! Since getting back from Oklahoma I have been pretty busy. I don't know where time has gone. We enjoyed our New Year's for the most part. We still had kids getting over their sicknesses. But Makenna and I went to see The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. I recommend reading the book and then seeing the movie before it leaves the big screen. Great Movie! I can't wait to read all of the books and then see the rest of the movies.

So I have a resolution this year to scrap at least 200 pages. This might be a challenge since I plan to get pregnant and sick for part of the year. But I have three done so far. Here is one of them.

This layout was inspired by a challenge to use red and brown together. I added the touch of blue to match Amy's back pack. I love the finished look. Anyway, I decided to enter the Design Team contest for Scrapworks. I have to send them a double page layout, a single page layout, a card and a project. I have the layouts done but I am still trying to figure out what to do for my project. I think I may have an idea that will work but I need to get started on playing with it before I stop trying to come up with something. Anyway, that is what has been happening with me around here. Going to scrap now!
